For the second consecutive year, Coral Springs Swim Club is reaching out to the community with a Food Drive.

CSSC is collecting non-perishable food and canned goods through October 11 for the Broward Outreach Centers.

To help replenish and stock the pantries, children and adults are being asked to drop off supplies in the large marked boxes at the Coral Springs Aquatic Complex or Mullins Park pool.

Swimmers, coaches, parents and friends of CSSC swimming are trying to help by continuing its Food Drive that started last year and was a huge success.

Because of the economy there has been a large increase in the number of needy families coming to the Broward Outreach Centers. The need is greater with more people losing their jobs or working in low-paying positions.

The Broward Outreach Centers/Miami Rescue Mission is a non-profit, faith-based organization focused on ministry to the homeless and needy in South Florida.

Last year the organization provided over 343,286 bed nights, and served nearly 859,883 meals to homeless men, women and children. During the 2013-14 fiscal year, they expect to serve over 1 million.

Anyone is welcome to bring donations to the pools. Non-perishable food items include canned meats, canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, crackers, cereal, pasta, pasta sauce, flour, sugar and rice.

For more information call Danica Schimansky at 954-592-2610.

Schimansky said about ten to twelve CSSC swimmers will deliver the collected food to The Broward Outreach homeless shelter, tour the facility and help in the kitchen.
